While working on this painting I was thinking about balance—calm versus energy. The water is flat and quiet, but the rest of the painting has a lot of movement and rough brushwork. I didn’t want everything to feel polished or controlled. It’s the feeling of discovering a hidden place—and realizing it might not stay hidden, or even stay whole, for long.
